It's not everyday you get to tour a cereal factory and see a wind turbine but that's exactly what we did last Tuesday in Northfield, Minnesota. As guests of the Mom's Best Naturals cereal company, we donned hairnets, safety goggles, ear plugs, and lab coats (see our ready-for-primetime photo below!) and went behind the scenes as thousands of pounds of hot and cold cereals were cooked up at the plant.

About the Meal Makeover Moms:
If you're looking for easy and delicious new ways to improve your family's diet,
The Meal Makeover Moms can help!

Janice Newell Bissex, MS, RD and Liz Weiss, MS, RD, known affectionately by the “groupies” who frequent their website and attend their cooking classes as The Meal Makeover Moms, are the authors of The Moms’ Guide to Meal Makeovers:  Improving the Way Your Family Eats, One Meal at a Time (Broadway Books 2004).  Their book was one of three finalists for the 2005 International Association of Culinary Professionals (IACP) Cookbook Award in the health and special diet category.  They are also the founders of www.MealMakeoverMoms.com and the free online “Meal Makeover Moms’ Club,” now over 8,000 members strong.  For three years, Janice and Liz wrote the monthly column, “Meal Makeover,” for Nick Jr. Family Magazine, and contribute to other publications including Better Homes & Gardens and Baby Talk.

The dietitian duo, both experts in the field of family nutrition, are sought-after speakers and cooking instructors, and lecture to professional groups across the country and conduct cooking classes (called Meal Makeover Mom Cooking Parties) for mothers’ groups, PTAs, and community organizations.  Their advice has been featured on hundreds of TV and radio programs including CNN, the Today Show, PBS, the Gene Burns Show, and in Newsweek, the Boston Globe, Atlanta Journal-Constitution, L.A. Parents Paper, The Christian Science Monitor, Parenting, Child, and many more.

Janice, who previously served as dietitian for the U.S. Senate and Liz, a broadcast journalist who worked for CNN and PBS for over a decade, recently launched The Meal Makeover Moms’ Blog where each week they post their newest recipes and though-provoking commentary on everything from the Red Sox to canned pumpkin to cupcakes. They also co-host a series of online videos at www.MealMakeoverTV.com.  This unique site features mealtime and pantry tips along with lively cooking demonstrations of family-friendly recipes including Toasty-O-Granola, Cheesy Fish Sticks, and Apple Blueberry Crisp.

When they’re not trying to change the world with their advice and recipes, The Meal Makeover Moms stay busy raising their children.  Janice, the mother of two daughters, ages 15 and 7, enjoys juggling (not just balls, but all the numerous family activities from piano and soccer to volleyball and basketball!), wine tasting, and raucous games of family kickball in the backyard.  Liz, a mom of two boys, ages 12 and 8, loves long walks, her monthly gourmet group gatherings, and playing ice hockey with her boys on the family’s backyard rink.
